Hi, I'm Michelle and the founder and owner of Marchantos

 

Originally from Oxfordshire, I have been crafting for many years (well over 40!!) and come from a family of "make do and menders".  I have always found it fascinating to create something out of a piece of fabric or knit an item from a piece of wool.  I came to make memory bears by accident after deciding to make a bear out of some old upholstery fabric to match décor in my home.  My family and friends thought it was really good and since then (about 12years ago) Marchantos was born. 

My little family moved to Lincolnshire several years ago and became smallholders so I fitted the crafting alongside allotmenteering, animals and general craziness. 

 

Marchantos is now very much  a family-run business and due to workload  my daughter "Flo" runs the admin side of things and keeps on top of our social media. We run a very successful Facebook page that has become something of a community. Flo will also answer any questions you may have (as long as its not about sewing, she doesn't "do" sewing lol). 

 

I personally love making the bears and seeing something beautiful created from pieces of cherished clothing.  I don't ever make a "standard" bear and I like adding special touches to my bears to make them "one-offs", they sometimes wear shirts, a jumper or a dapper tie.  Some wear hats and adorn spectacles. When I started out I vowed never to "knock bears out" and although I will make similar bears I never make exactly the same bears, each bear has its own personality and thats something we will continue to do.   

We also feel that we offer a valuable service. and we pride ourselves on our customer service and we will always strive to go that extra mile. ​

​We have expanded massively over the years which has led to us having a  waiting list. We try to  stand out from other makers and we can embroider, sublimate and print. We have sold and sent bears all over the World.  We are also in the process of expanding our own pattern artist bears, these have taken many hours to perfect and we are now in a position to sell. We are very excited to be adding these to our collection (please keep an eye on our blog, Facebook page and gallery for new arrivals) We are also hoping to enter some shows and competitions in the very near future. We are starting a blog on the website also so you can keep up to date with our news, and any forthcoming raffles, sales or special offers.
